"There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in." - Leonard Cohen

Trained as a poet and ordained as a Buddhist monk, Cohen wrote these lyrics in his song "Anthem" from 1992 and I have always turned to this phrase when I have found imperfections in my work. This pine bowl presented me with a major imperfection while I was turning it: a crack had developed on the rim of the bowl and a large chunk of wood broke off and flung across the room. Not knowing what to do, I finished the bowl and later decided to break off the rest of the cracked rim. Upon inspection I realized that the chipped rim resembled a mountain range and turning to my wood burner I decided to complete the horizon.
